Wow! What a fantastic event it was again this year. Lowie Recruitment partnered with AB Equipment to bring you ‘The Big Lift 2015’ forklift challenge held at ‘Big Boys Toys’. The competition was organised by East Tamaki – headquartered dealer AB Equipment Ltd, Lowie Recruitment and Big Boys Toys.

Open to all businesses and individuals, the competition included a theory test, pre-operational assessment and a drive on a course designed to be more confined than most work environments. Operators had to navigate a Toyota 8FG18 forklift with precision and speed, while promoting safe and efficient operation.

The 2015 Big Lift forklift driver competition was won by Leighton Eder of Independent Liquor Ltd, who received NZD1,000. For supporting Eder, Independent Liquor will also receive two complimentary forklift drivers weekly from Lowie Recruitment, free weekly hire of two counterbalance forklifts from AB Equipment and the Big Lift shield for 2015. Ariki Bratton of Winston Wallboards was second-placed and received NZD500. Sione Haapai from Tapper Transport Ltd received NZD250 for coming third.

Companies were encouraged to bring supporters to the inaugural competition and compete for the ‘biggest cheer prize’. For creating “the right atmosphere”, Quentin Tagaloa and Francis Brown of Argenta Ltd won the prize of a lunch for four at Café e Cucina in Albany.

AB Equipment rental sales and fleet manager Ana Wright tells News that the winners of the competition will only be notified at the awards evening held on Friday, 6 November at AB Equipment in East Tamaki. The Big Lift also raised NZD500 to support youth cancer charity, CanTeen.

Wright and de Vries from AB Equipment, Kylee and Steve Sargent of Lowie Recruitment, and Graham Dale and Dean Wilson of Big Boys Toys were credited for bringing the inaugural forklift competition to the expo, which was held at ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane.
